  • The faculty is integrated by active professional specialists, members of UHD Spain.

  • Registration is now open on the official website of UHD Spain and UPM.

UHD Spain, the association that promotes Ultra High Definition in Spain, in its interest to continue supporting and contributing to the training of professionals in this field, has announced the opening of registration for the course of UHD Signal Production and Broadcasting In collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM).

The course, which will be imparted remotely, will have 14 teachers, all of them active professionals in the sector such as Carlos Castán, Manager of Canon; Xavier Bonet, CCMA; Xavier Redón, Product Manager of Cellnex; Vicente Pla, COITT; Sonia Valladares, Solutions Engineer at Dolby; Ricardo Viñas, Senior Sound Consultant at Dolby Laboratories; Elena Burdiel, Associate Researcher at Fraunhofer IIS; Emili Planas, Director of Technology and Operations at Mediapro; Roberto Salvador, from RTVE; Juan José Anaya, Technical Director at SAPEC; Julián Fernández-Campón, Technology Director at Tedial; Yeray Alfageme, Business Development Director at Optiva Media, and José Luis Blanco, Professor at the Polytechnic University of Madrid; and coordinated by UPM Professor José Manuel Menéndez through his involvement in the UHD Spain association.

The purpose of this course is that at present the transition in the field of television is towards productions made with Ultra High Definition signal, a type of signal that substantially increases the number of pixels and implies very important changes in the audio and video signal.

These changes allude, for example, to the use of a greater bit depth, a wider range of color, the possible use of a signal with high dynamic range or a higher frequency in the refresh rate of the image frame in addition to the use of a new type of audio signal of new generation.

According to course coordinator José Manuel Menéndez, the main goal is to teach professionals about the new characteristics of the UHD signal throughout the production chain, from capture to broadcast”.

The classes will include aspects of post-processing, monitoring, archiving, and commercial exploitation of the content broadcast or available for value-added services.

To access the course, although no academic degree is required, it is recommended that the student has completed a university degree or higher cycle in Vocational Training related to technical subjects that include the study of the audio and/or video signal in the signal broadcast on television, or audiovisual communication or the production and realization of this type of content.

The course program includes topics such as the technical evolution of the television signal, IP production centers, broadcast systems and transport of the UHD signal, the new generation NGA audio in UHD signal, UHD video, signal monitoring, live and deferred broadcast architectures, value-added services, and distribution and archiving of content.
