UHD Signal Production and Broadcasting Course in collaboration with the UPM

The transition in the field of television, at this time, is to productions made with Ultra High Definition signal. This type of signal is not limited to significantly increase the number of dots or pixels present in the image, but involves major changes in both the audio and video signal that requires specific training to start working with UHD signal. Among these important changes are the use of higher bit depth, forced by the ITU-R BT.2020 recommendation, and which is not compatible with most TV monitors sold on the market, the wider color gamut according to the same recommendation, the possibility of using high dynamic range signal, not compatible with standard dynamic range signals either, the possibility of using higher frame refresh rate (with the consequent significant increase in the required bit rate) and, last but not least, the new type of new generation audio signal, and its possibilities in object management, accessibility and processing at the user’s option.

The main objective of this course is to train professionals of media groups in working with the new features of the UHD signal throughout the production chain, from capture to broadcast, including aspects of post-processing, monitoring, archiving and commercial exploitation of content broadcast or available for value-added services. For this, the course has the experience of professionals from leading companies in the industry and media groups in Spain, through their involvement in the UHD Spain association, a non-profit association, which was created with 30 members and with the aim of bringing together all companies in the Spanish 4K HDR audiovisual industry to work together in the advancement and consensus of the implementation of Ultra High Definition in Spain (www.uhdspain.com). Among these founding partners is the Polytechnic University of Madrid, in particular with professors and researchers of the E.T.S. of Telecommunications Engineers who are working on UHD issues since 2015 through the RTVE Chair at UPM, whose director is als
