UHD Spain, FAVN France and UHD Italy sign a strategic agreement to jointly promote UHD in Europe

The UHD Spain Association, the Forum Audiovisuel Numérique (FAVN) of France and the UHD Forum Italy have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote Ultra High Definition (UHD) technology in Europe and international markets. This agreement lays the foundation for a strategic collaboration between the leading European associations dedicated to the development and implementation of advanced technologies in the media industry.

Coordinated Actions for UHD Adoption

The primary goal of this MoU is to coordinate joint activities that facilitate the adoption of UHD as a technological standard at both European and global levels. The agreement is designed as a long-term collaboration, with a focus on technical cooperation, training and the promotion of technological innovation.

Technical Collaboration and Professional Training

The Memorandum outlines a series of specific activities aimed at knowledge sharing among associations. These activities include, among others, the exchange of information between the working groups of the different organizations, generate best practice guidelines, the implementation of joint training programs and the development of technical tests and pilots.

A Unified European Front

The agreement also seeks to strengthen the position of the three associations as key stakeholders in front of European institutions and other international organizations. This will allow the associations to coordinate their efforts on regulatory, standardization and promotional matters, ensuring that European policies support the development and adoption of UHD.

One of the memorandum’s objectives is to achieve greater integration in the development of standards and regulations, positioning Europe as a leader in audiovisual innovation. The coordination between UHD Spain, FAVN France and UHD Italy enhances Europe’s ability to compete in the global market and establish benchmarks in quality and interoperability.

About FAVN

The Forum Audiovisuel Numérique (FAVN) was established in 2004 and is a French association that brings together major players in the audiovisual sector in France. Its mission is to ensure access to high-quality content and support the evolution of audiovisual technologies. It comprises 28 key companies in the French audiovisual sector, including television channels and media groups such as TF1, France Télévisions, M6, Arte, Canal+, and NRJ Group. Technical broadcast operators in the association include TDF, Eutelsat Group, SES, and HBS (Host Broadcast Services). Orange is also part of FAVN as an internet service provider.

Among equipment manufacturers, members include LG Electronics, Panasonic, Samsung, Sony, Hisense, and TP Vision. Audiovisual technology providers include Dolby, Harmonic, Technicolor, Bluesoundware, and Visionetics, while companies in digital technology and services include Interdigital, Cartesian, Fraunhofer, Nagra (Kudelski Group), and Sagemcom. UHD Forum Italy is an Italian association founded in 2006, dedicated to promoting, supporting, and advancing the use of High Definition (HD), Ultra High Definition (UHD), 3D, and other advanced audiovisual solutions. It includes a wide range of key companies and institutions in the Italian audiovisual and technology sectors.

Members include ATEME, Dolby, EI Towers, and Engineering, which specialize in transmission and encoding technologies. Telecommunications and content distribution players such as Eutelsat, Fastweb, FTVComs Group, and the Ugo Bordoni Foundation (FUB) are also involved. Additionally, Fraunhofer, Veesit, Kineton and LG Electronics contribute to the development of standards, software, and hardware.

The forum also includes Lutech, MainStreaming, Mediaset, and Nagra (Kudelski Group), which are leaders in transmission, television, and digital security solutions. In the manufacturing sector, members include Panasonic, Persidera, Rai, and Samsung, along with major communication and telecommunications companies such as Sky, Sony, TIM and TivùSat.
