UHD SPAIN HANDS OVER ITS WHITE BOOK TO THE ROYAL ACADEMY OF ENGINEERING
In a private act of getting closer to the Public Institutions, the president of the UHD Spain association, Pere Vila, has handed over to the president of the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAING), Antonio Colino, the first White Book of Ultra High Definition (UHD) in Spain so that it can be added to the catalogue of the prestigious Library and can be consulted by academics.
Pere Vila informed the president of the RAING that it is absolutely necessary for the Spanish audiovisual sector to introduce this technology in the production processes, in order to maintain the competitiveness of our companies in the International market, in which nearly all reference productions are in UHD; and in the broadcasting processes, in order to offer audiences a similar level of quality to that offered by the new platforms, with the UHD option.
“Ultra High Definition allows us to reach our emotions. It brings the viewer to visual and sound sensations that have not existed before,” commented the presidents.
They also highlighted the potential of Ultra High Definition in fields such as medicine, especially eHealth, by improving the conditions in which doctors can diagnose remotely, thanks to the high quality of the images generated by mobile phone cameras and UHD receivers.
The president of the RAING offered UHD Spain the facilities of the Royal Academy to hold events at its headquarters, the historic Palace of the Marquis of Villafranca, in the Madrid of the Austrias, built in the 18th century by order of Don Pedro Álvarez de Toledo.
As a television anecdote, Antonio Colino commented that the first TV transmission tests in Spain were made in the 1950s from his own home, thanks to the circumstance that his father, who was an engineer in the Marconi company, lived in an area near and with direct visibility of the building on Paseo de La Habana, where the first studios of Televisión Española (TVE) were installed.
The event, limited in capacity by the COVID, was also attended by the Managing Director of the Royal Academy, Javier Pérez de Vargas, and a small representation of managers, coordinators and partners of UHD Spain, including Eduardo Valencia (Ametic), Ricardo Medina (Medina Media), Miguel Ángel Cristóbal (Sapec), José Manuel Menéndez (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid) and Carlos Luque (Video-MOS).
In the coming months, UHD Spain will continue its agenda of meetings to present the association and the White Book to different public and private entities.
