  • After the good reception of the first edition, UHD Spain will give again the UHD Production and Broadcasting Course in collaboration with the UPM.
  • The teaching staff is composed of active professional specialists, members of UHD SPAIN.

UHD Spain, the association that promotes Ultra High Definition in Spain, in its interest to support and contribute to the training of professionals in this field, has announced the II edition of the Course of Production and Broadcasting of UHD signal in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM).

After the good reception of previous editions, UHD Spain and UPM present the new course in online format with limited places and that will have active professionals in the sector as teachers.

In the words of its director, José Manuel Menéndez, Professor at the UPM, the course aims to “train media professionals to work with the new characteristics of the UHD signal, from capture to broadcast, including aspects of post-processing, monitoring, archiving and commercial export”.

Thus, the course reflects the need for training in a context of transition to Ultra High Definition by the industry and in which there is a demand to train professionals in the management of the new features of the UHD signal.

Participants will acquire the necessary knowledge to face the fundamental challenges involved in the implementation of UHD, such as the greater bit depth forced by the ITU-R BT.2020 recommendation, the use of high dynamic range coexisting with standard dynamic range, the greater capacity for color representation, the higher refresh rate in the image frame or the possibilities of next-generation audio.

On the other hand, the faculty is made up of active professionals from the main companies in the sector and media groups in Spain that, under the umbrella of UHD Spain, work for the definitive implementation of the UHD signal in our country.

The teaching team will include Carlos Castán (Canon); Xavier Bonet and Jordi Mata (CCMA); Xavier Redón (Cellnex); Vicente Pla (COITT); Sonia Valladares and Ricardo Viñas (Dolby); Elena Burdiel (Fraunhofer IIS); Emili Planas (Grup Mediapro); Roberto Salvador Bueno Klein (RTVE); Miguel Ángel Corral (RTVE); Juan José Anaya (SAPEC); Julián Fernández-Campón (Tedial); José Luis Blanco, David Jiménez and José Manuel Menéndez (UPM); as well as Yeray Alfageme and Francisco José Espinosa ‘Tilano’, as independent experts.

The program includes topics such as the evolution of the UHD signal, next-generation NGA audio, UHD video signal capture, production and encoding, transport and playout, as well as monitoring, live and delayed broadcast architectures, UHD value-added services, and content distribution and archiving.

The mode of delivery of the course will be remote (by connecting to the class through the Teams platform). Classes will be recorded to facilitate subsequent viewing in order to facilitate reconciliation with work schedules and occasional absences to classes.

The course is structured in two modules, which are taught sequentially in time. It is possible to take both modules, or only one of them.

Although no academic degree is required to access the course, it is recommended that the student has previous studies either a university degree or a higher cycle in Vocational Training related to technical subjects that include the study of the audio and video signal in the signal broadcast on television, audiovisual communication or the production and realization of this type of content.
